Rewiring Beliefs
I spent most of my summer sailing with my father who was going through a tough time. These months were some of my most challenging experiences, and opened my heart in ways I could never have done by myself.
One of the many things I learned during this journey is that we feed what we see in others. If I see someone as broken, I am feeding that reality with my attention and perception. Whereas if I see them in their wholeness, while embracing their wounds, I am bringing forth that reality.
We feed our reality with what we pay attention to and believe in. This realization is as important for ourselves, than it is for anyone in our lives.
A lot of people see themselves as victims and truly believe it, making it hard for them to break out of their invisible prison walls. Conversely, those who believe in themselves and their power to change, are able to create a life that reflects what they truly desire.
So how do we begin to rewire these unconscious patterns?
The first step is always to become aware, for you cannot change anything that you don’t see. You need to take an honest look at what you are feeding with your thoughts and emotions. Are you mostly in a state of fear and victimization? Or do you feel empowered and faithful?
Our mind and emotions play an equally big role in this rewiring. Thought patterns and beliefs can run very deep in our unconscious mind. We need to practice observing our thoughts and silencing our mind, in order to get closer to the truth and stop feeding the patterns keeping us stuck.
Emotions also play a key role in influencing our perspective. We may have traumatic experiences or fears that block us from moving forward in life. These trapped emotions make us see reality in a biased way. At the core, they weigh us down and stop us from creating the life we truly desire.
We release our trapped emotions by relaxing our body, and feeling into the sensations generated by the emotions. As we begin to feel unconditionally, we are letting go of the trapped emotions stuck in our system.
On a practical way, we change the story of our life by believing in ourselves and loving ourselves unconditionally. This includes letting go of judgments and not spending all our time focusing on what is not okay in our life.
We begin by redirecting our attention to what we want to create more of, knowing that attention is energy, and that we have the ability to create the life we believe in.
Next, we release the thoughts and emotions that are feeding what we don't want in our lives, by practicing awareness, feeling, and acceptance.
Finally, we take action towards the life we want to create. This can feel uncomfortable and scary, so come back to the previous steps when necessary.
This is not an overnight process, yet it is one that changes you at the root level. Remember, we are co-creators of our reality, and we are choosing what we give life to.
Where attention goes, energy flows. And what you believe in becomes your reality!
