Perfectionism & Failure

As I launch my coaching business and become a full-time entrepreneur, I’ve had to deal with a lot of thoughts on perfectionism and failure.

Although I’ve been training myself to step out of this negative loop, I got frustrated several times last week. So I started applying the tools I’ve learned to this situation.

It’s not easy to accept that your deepest dreams will take time to come to fruition. What I realized, as I was not reaching my perfectionist ideals, was that these were not the real goal.

The real goal of my entrepreneurial journey is not to reach financial sustainability as fast as possible or to become world-wide famous.

The deeper drive is to play my role well, to continue showing up every day no matter if I failed yesterday or not. To do my work out of pure love and desire to serve — not waiting in vain for an external reward.

Because the greatest return I will get comes from within, knowing I am doing what I was born to do. And this is what I am feeling right now.

So no matter how much time this takes, must it be decades, I will continue to show up and grow. Life is not about hitting one successful contract or an objective target.

Life is about what you do every day — if you are living in alignment with your values and playing your roles well.

There is nothing close to perfect, there is just doing your best. There is nothing like failure, there is only data to learn from.

In this journey, I am playing the long game. Being an entrepreneur or a professional of any kind is not about giving everything a few days and then abandoning.

The purpose, the deeper why, is what really matters. My goal is to play this game for decades, not years, months, or days. I am committing my life to this.

Maybe this is just my idealistic part speaking again. But who cares? My heart is yelling at me to serve at my best and let the rest unfold.

So what’s most important to you? Are you living your purpose in your everyday life?

Purpose is not an abstract thing you think about once in a while. It is what you do every single day. It is what drives all your actions.

What’s your why? And how can you honor it today?

Finding these answers and applying them to your life is tough, trust me. But there’s nothing more rewarding than doing what you feel called to do.

So let's cut away our perfectionist ideals and our fear of failure.

Here’s to playing our roles well in everything we do, and accepting that it's good enough for now.
